Corona vaccination: Duisburg awards vaccine via SMS

2021-03-01T17:10:20.256Z

In order not to have to throw away defrosted Biontech vaccination doses, the city of Duisburg uses a new program that uses a random generator to notify those willing to be vaccinated. Whoever answers first will be vaccinated.

The vaccination center of the city of Duisburg uses a newly developed software called “Impfbrücke” in order to be able to use any leftover, already thawed Biontech vaccine.

The software uses a random generator to select people from a list of those willing to vaccinate from the respective prioritized group, who are then contacted by SMS, as city spokeswoman Anja Kopka reported on Monday.

Those who accept the offer can be vaccinated on the same day.

"It's about 15 cans a day." The experience is good.

The "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" had previously reported on the software developed in Cologne.

"The program is currently sending SMS to three people at the same time for each vaccination dose," said Manuel Hüttel from the software start-up "Lit labs" of the newspaper.

“Whoever agrees first gets the appointment.

If no one reacted after 30 minutes, three new people are contacted. «A prototype of the system has been in use in Duisburg for ten days.

According to the operators, the software gets the contact details of the volunteers from Excel tables from the Duisburg vaccination center.

In these tables, only the vaccination groups and the mobile phone number are noted, explained Hüttel to the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger".

In Duisburg, the system has already conveyed 125 vaccination doses within ten days, says the developer of the “vaccination bridge”.

So far there are no other interested parties to use the software in other cities, said Hüttel.

"Of course we would be happy if we could help support vaccination centers elsewhere."
