Car sinks in water (FACEBOOK)

We have not encountered such misfortune for a long time.

A driver was forced to watch his vintage vehicle sink into the water twice in the space of a few hours, after the car’s wheels slid backwards down a boat ramp in Fort Bhutani, a suburb in South Sydney, Australia.

This is not another Fiat or Hyundai, but a 1980s Ford Falcon XF collectible vehicle, so the loss is even more severe - so much so that the second time it happened, the driver was seen grabbing his vehicle and refusing to release as if it were his drowning son.

A video posted on Facebook last Sunday shows the red vehicle being pulled out of the water by a cable attached to a tow truck, as the driver tries to take control of his personal belongings that begin to float through the open vehicle windows.

While passersby watch the driver try to steer the car onto the ramp, the cable is torn and the vehicle rolls down the ramp again with its doors open straight into the water.

The heartbroken driver clung helplessly to the car door as his pride and joy also sank in the ocean water.

In the background you can hear spectators calling for the driver to release the car door.

"Just leave it!", One of those present calls out to him.

His partner joins in the chants: "Just leave it baby, otherwise it will take you to the water too. Come on baby, the water is too strong."

After almost a minute, the driver releases his grip on the vehicle and hits the water in frustration.

Hundreds of Facebook users flooded the video with messages of identification with the Ford driver.

"Poor thing, someone please buy him a beer tonight," one comment read, "It's really sad. A classic old and nice classic Falcon. Very sympathetic to the guy," another wrote in Empathy.

Other drivers shared their horror stories about the last time they passed through the boat ramp at Port Botany.

"How many cars need to get stuck there before they really do anything with it? They need to clean the bottom of the ramp, when there is a depression it is very slippery and full of mildew," wrote one and another added: "The ramp needs maintenance, it is very very smooth now at low and very dangerous! We went in there a few weeks ago because the wheels just kept slipping. Do something about it! "
