Dieter Gilles leads through the vaccination center of the Altötting district.
It is housed in an indoor swimming pool, the water was drained from the basin.
The technical manager of the center shows the vaccination booths and the refrigerator in which the vaccines are stored.
But the highlight is an inconspicuous desk with a laptop, web camera and card printer.
Here in the tiled atmosphere deep in Upper Bavaria, something revolutionary is happening for German conditions: Vaccinated citizens receive digitally readable proof, a white card the size of an EC card, in addition to the sticker in their yellow vaccination book.
A helper with a face mask explains what she records to the senior citizens in Altötting: name, date of birth, address, the time of the two vaccinations and the vaccine used.
She takes a photo, then the document comes out of the printer: "Vaccination confirmation SARS CoV-2" can be read on the front next to the picture of the vaccinated, on the back there is a QR code.
The vaccination center currently issues around 150 such cards every day.
Costs for the district office: eight cents per citizen, for the whole district a little more than 8,000 euros, not including expenses for staff.
"We need maybe five minutes each for that," says Gilles.
