With the outbreak of the corona crisis in Israel and the entry of thousands of elderly people in Israel into isolation, Cellcom began developing a "connect" product - a tablet device with built-in WhatsApp that allows them to stay in touch even when away from family and friends without the technological challenge of operating apps.

In collaboration with the electronics company Tel-Ad, Cellcom has begun designing and manufacturing a high-quality mobile tablet for the elderly, which includes a surfing package for use anywhere and regardless of external communication for receiving video calls in the simplest and easiest way.

Nadav Amsalem, VP of Business Customers at Cellcom, said: "The Corona crisis has made us understand that there is a need to provide an immediate response to the needs of many in Israel who live in isolation and disconnection from their loved ones and also experience technological difficulty.

The reactions of the medical staff to the use of tablets in the wards are very positive and exciting, and we are preparing to continue producing more tablets. "

In recent months, thousands of tablets used by the elderly have been sold all over the country.

Carmel Medical Center in Haifa was the first to purchase a number of devices as part of a pilot for patients in the corona ward, inpatient wards and for patients with special needs.

At the end of the pilot, the project will be expanded to additional inpatient wards.

In addition, Cellcom is currently completing another pilot with the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh), in which patients in the Corona wards, women at risk and orthopedics at the medical center experienced the tablet.

The tablet allows inpatients to have a video call easily with family members who due to corona restrictions are not allowed to visit.

The Kiryat Gat municipality also recently purchased several hundred tablets that were distributed among senior citizens and people with special needs from the city's residents.

The platform allows us to address "veteran" or individual patients who are unable to make regular contact with their family members. The corona epidemic has intensified the sense of disconnection and isolation from families and the system allows us to ease the hospitalization period and ensure patients' mental well-being. "Patients are constantly trying to provide a tailored response to patients and this is a leap forward for a population for which progress has created many gaps," said Daniel Poliker, in charge of developing and implementing service processes at Carmel Medical Center.
