Covid-19: patients in intensive care at their highest since November

This indicator, which concerns the most serious cases, has continued to rise since the beginning of January. This is the highest level since the end of November


The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care increased significantly on Sunday March 7, to 3,743 patients against 3,689 the day before, the highest level since the end of November, according to data from Public Health France.

Lowered below the 2600 mark at the beginning of January, this indicator, which concerns the most serious cases, has continued to rise since.

It is still far from the peak of the second wave of autumn (4,900 mid-November) and especially of the first wave in spring (7,000 at the beginning of April).

In the last 24 hours, 187 patients have been admitted to these intensive care units, a rather low figure, but which is traditionally the weekend.

The total number of hospitalized patients has tended to decline, on the contrary, since the beginning of February.

It was 24,818 on Sunday, 53 more people than the day before.

Public Health France has reported 21,825 new contaminations, bringing the total to 3,904 million cases since the start of the epidemic.

The test positivity rate is 7.3%, stable at this level for a week.

The number of deaths from Covid-19 has climbed to 88,600, including 130 in the last 24 hours.

Public health France counts 3,772,579 people having received at least one dose as of Saturday.

The weekend was marked by a national logistical vaccination effort, thanks to which, according to Prime Minister Jean Castex, "

585,000 French people have been vaccinated since Friday

".
