Hundreds of Swedes protest against their government's corona policy

9:59 a.m.:

In the Swedish capital Stockholm, hundreds of people demonstrated against Corona measures on Saturday.

According to police, six officers were injured in connection with the demonstration, one of whom was hospitalized.

One person was accused of organizing the unauthorized protest, and two people were arrested for other violations.

The police repeatedly asked people to break up the demonstration because gatherings of more than eight people were not allowed.

The protest was organized by a group that said the restrictions were unfounded.

In the Corona crisis, Sweden had taken a special route with comparatively permissive Corona measures as well as recommendations and appeals to the common sense of the citizens.

Since March 1, restaurants, pubs and cafes have had to close at 8.30 p.m. due to the renewed increase in the number of infections.

Most recently, the city of Stockholm recommended that its residents wear mouth and nose protection in public transport, as well as at the hairdresser's or in the grocery store.

A limit of 500 customers is recommended for shops and shopping centers.

After peaking in December, the Swedish infection numbers only fell, but rose again in February.

In contrast to Germany, the Swedish health authorities give a 14-day instead of a 7-day incidence;

according to the latest figures, in the second half of February this was 488 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Sweden, with a population of 10.3 million, has had around 684,000 infected people, of which around 13,000 have died.

According to the authority, seven percent of Swedes had received their first corona vaccination by Friday.

Schwesig sharply criticizes the federal government for the lack of corona self-tests

9.43 a.m.:

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has blamed the federal government for missing corona self-tests and sharply criticized it.

"At this point I don't want to hide the fact that I'm very upset that the federal government allows Aldi and Co. to sell self-tests and we don't get the self-tests delivered until mid-March," said Schwesig.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had already ordered two million of these self-tests before the Prime Minister's Conference, "because we suspected that we could not rely on the federal government," "she said. The state has around 1.6 million inhabitants. It could be in the Corona -Pandemic should not be that the market determines the protection for children and young people. The state should have done this, Schwesig said. With more self-tests, easing in day-care centers and schools would be more possible.

RKI registered 8103 new infections and 96 new deaths

9.25 a.m.:

The health authorities in Germany reported 8,103 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day.

In addition, 96 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours.

That comes from the numbers of the RKI from Sunday.

The data reflect the status of the RKI dashboard from 03.11 a.m., subsequent changes or additions to the RKI are possible.

On Sunday, the number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower, among other things because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

Exactly one week ago, the RKI had recorded 7,890 new infections and 157 new deaths within one day.

According to the RKI, the number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (seven-day incidence) was 66.1 nationwide on Sunday morning - and thus slightly higher than the previous day (65.6).

The number of new infections in Germany fell significantly for weeks in January and February.

However, it has recently stagnated, which could also be due to the spread of more contagious variants.
