A man was arrested and taken into custody in the investigation for attempted homicide of two men with firearms and knives on Saturday in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, the public prosecutor told AFP on Thursday from Cherbourg (Calvados).
"The author of the serious events which occurred last Saturday in the Provinces was arrested and placed in police custody", confirmed on Twitter Benoît Arrivé, the mayor (PS) of Cherbourg.

“An individual, whose first elements of investigation suggest that he would be the shooter of the attacks in Cherbourg on Saturday, was arrested and placed in police custody.
He is currently being heard by investigators from the judicial police, ”declared Yves Le Clair, prosecutor of Cherbourg.
The 39-year-old defendant was arrested on Wednesday afternoon.
The judicial police (PJ) of Caen and the police station of Cherbourg had been seized jointly of the investigation opened for attempted homicide.
Three men were injured, including two seriously requiring urgent operation, Saturday, after being the target of fire and stab wounds.
Their days are not in danger.
"We can not yet identify the reasons (for this aggression) with precision", then explained the prosecutor of Cherbourg.
