Victory for Jérôme Rodrigues on the legal ground.
The yellow vest, knocked out during a demonstration on January 26, 2019, was awarded 30,000 euros in interim compensation on March 11 by the Compensation Commission for Victims of Crimes (Civi) of the Paris judicial court.
While the public prosecutor asked to wait for the end of the judicial investigation before ruling on this request, the Civi considered that Jérôme Rodrigues was immediately entitled to compensation "on a provisional basis in view of the seriousness of his injuries", considering in particular that the self-defense of the police officer who had touched him was not constituted.

According to the Civi, “it is established that Mr. Rodrigues was injured by a grenade fire […] which has the material character of an offense of violence, while self-defense cannot be opposed” to the victim, not more than an act which would have been legitimately carried out in the exercise of the maintenance of order, "nor even a fault" which it would have committed.
The experts in particular made “the observation of absence of violent or hostile behavior of (Mr. Rodrigues) or of the people who were near him, while the police officers were the target of demonstrators being in a place very different from the Place de la Bastille ”, according to this decision.
"A permanent functional deficit of 25%"
In this case, a police officer was also indicted on January 14 for "willful violence resulting in mutilation or permanent disability", aggravated by several circumstances.
A criminal qualification falling under the assizes.
To fix the amount of the final compensation, the Civi ordered an expertise which must be delivered in September.
For the moment, an expertise ordered within the framework of the judicial information evaluated the damage of the Yellow Vest at "a permanent functional deficit of 25%".
