The President of the Republic reaffirmed Wednesday his intention to "protect the most vulnerable and caregivers", during a trip to the Poissy / Saint-Germain-en Laye hospital center (Yvelines).

"

We will make the decisions that we must take

" in the face of the Covid-19 epidemic, Emmanuel Macron said Wednesday, March 17 to sullen-looking caregivers at the Poissy / Saint-Germain-en Laye hospital center (Yvelines ).

"

I can tell you that we will be there and that we will continue to make (...) pragmatic, proportionate and territorialized decisions

", which "

correspond to the life of the epidemic

", in order to "

protect the most vulnerable and caregivers

”, declared the Head of State in front of a dozen caregivers of the intensive care unit.

After having chaired a Health Defense Council in the morning, Emmanuel Macron began his visit to Poissy by taking stock of the situation, in the company of the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, with officials of this hospital with more than 1,200 beds and of the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

He then went to the intensive care and intensive care units.

Gloomy atmosphere

Mathieu, one of the doctors, explained to the president that the current situation was "

worrying

" with the hospitalization of "

slightly younger patients

" in "

a more serious condition

".

He also stressed that vaccination represented, for caregivers, "

the glimmer of hope

" to which he clung.

Me too,

” replied Emmanuel Macron, who however faced the contempt of some caregivers, who deliberately turned their backs on him.

The atmosphere seemed gloomy in this hospital center, where 42% of staff were vaccinated, said one of its officials.

The hospital centre's intensive care unit has 20 beds, compared to the usual 14: eight of the 12 beds reserved for Covid patients are occupied, and 6 of the 8 beds for “

non-Covid

”.

"

We pushed the walls a bit

", explained Professor Jan Hayon, head of the surgery-anesthesia-resuscitation pole, stressing that he "has

not slept since yesterday (Tuesday) morning because the pressure remains high

"

even

if the trend has been "

roughly stable

" in recent days.

The Poissy / Saint-Germain-en-Laye intercommunal hospital center is spread over two main sites located in these two cities, around twenty kilometers from Paris.

It has 3190 professionals and its capacity is around 1209 beds and places.
