US government withdraws AstraZeneca after factory vaccination failure

7:25 a.m.:

The US government of President Joe Biden has removed responsibility for a production facility from the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and transferred it in full to Johnson & Johnson (J&J).

This is reported by the Reuters news agency and the New York Times.

Workers at the Baltimore plant that makes vaccines for both Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca accidentally mixed up the ingredients in the two vaccines a few weeks ago.

It affected 15 million J&J vaccine units, which made them unusable.

Federal officials would attribute the error to human error, it said.

AstraZeneca, whose vaccine has not yet been approved in the United States, commented on the current decision: they would advise the US government about an alternative production facility for their own vaccine production.

Foundation warns of increasing homelessness among children

7.11 a.m.:

Because of the pandemic, children and young people are increasingly threatened with homelessness, according to the “Off Road Kids” foundation.

»Where there is seething in families, a lockdown can lead to total rift.

That ends with being thrown out, ”says Markus Seidel, spokesman for the foundation's board.

Young people and adolescents aged 17 and over are particularly affected.

Last year broke all sad records at the nationwide aid organization: »We received 2,474 calls for help from desperate street children and young people who are acutely threatened by homelessness in Germany.

That was twice as many as last year, «said Seidel.

Because there are no street workers out and about in Corona times, the foundation tries to reach children at risk through the online help service »sofahopper.de«.
