Trailer for the movie "The Power of Thunder" (Netflix)

The film industry has a lot of unwritten rules.

One of them states: Distributors always know what they have in hand, for better or worse.

If they do not allow early viewing of the film, or impose a particularly late embargo on the publication of the reviews, it is a sign that they are not particularly proud of what they have in their hands and / or smell that the reviews are going to be fatal.

The same thing happened with "Thunder Power," which aired on Netflix over the weekend.

The streaming service has allowed the international media to watch it for a long time, but must oblige it to shut its mouth as close as possible to the date of the ascent.

After watching the movie, one can understand why, and it takes exactly two words to define it: sub-level.

This is disappointing, as there were expectations.

When Netflix announced that they would release at least one new movie at least every week during the year, and unveiled their menu, "Thunder Force" was actually portrayed as one of its major attractions.

A superhero comedy starring two actresses in the floor class of Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer, what could be wrong?

What could be wrong?

You will be amazed.

Well, let's start with the plot - poor, generic and childish.

It takes place in a parallel reality, in which some scrambled strain of villainous archers operates.

A scientist, played by Spencer, dreams from childhood of developing an invention that will allow ordinary people to acquire special forces and fight them.

Eventually, for even more scribbled reasons, her development finds its way into the body of a somewhat witty and frivolous woman, played by McCarthy, who becomes a superhero without planning.

That woman was the scientist's best friend as a child, but then the two broke up.

The reunion allows them to try to renew their friendships while saving the world.

Netflix is one of the largest entertainment corporations in the world, and superhero movies are an expensive genre, but "Thunder Power" seems to be made on a meager budget, one that characterizes Israeli cinema.

Almost every moment and moment here indicates the paucity of means.

Some examples: Almost the entire film is shot between four walls, which is probably cheaper, but also makes it difficult to reliably describe a war between arch-villains and superheroes.

Each time, the facial scenes stretch to the limit the use of the scene, perhaps so that the production does not have to spend money and move to film elsewhere as well.

Although the film itself is not long, the scenes that make it up are ridiculously stretched and smeared, which also indicates the attempt to maximize resources as much as possible.

Let’s just say I’ve seen Kazakh festival films in black and white that were run less slowly than “The Power of Thunder”.

Where's the money?

The bad guy, played by Bobby Cannabley, is accompanied by an entourage that includes only about six or seven people: not exactly a credible situation in relation to his plots.

Needless to say, the effects are inferior, and so is the level of jokes.

Spencer and McCarthy do what they can, but it's not much given the level of script and execution.

Despite its name, in "The Power of Thunder" there are no forces nor thunders.

It lacks flight, and is mostly revealed as a cheap imitation of the trends that dominate today.

Aside from the forced political correctness, it has another hallmark of our time: the bad guy is a greedy politician and populist, unwilling to accept the laws of democracy.

That is, just like in "Wonder Woman 1984" and other movies, it is a clear parable of Donald Trump, an allegory that has already become disgusting and corny, probably when presented in a crude and imitative way like here.

Still, there is a bright spot in the film - the relationship that develops between the superheroine starring McCarthy and the cutest villains, played by Jason Bateman.

They share a nice moment or two, but of course that's not enough to make up for the rest.

Good actresses in a bad movie.

True, I understand, this is a superhero comedy, not a net superhero movie, so one has to accept that it is a little less bombastic and a little more haphazard, but there is a limit to any prank, and the standards here are too low.

"The Power of Thunder" does not come to make fun of the genre, but makes fun of work, and laughter of us.

He is inferior and miserable in an inexcusable way.

McCarthy's partner in reality is Ben Falcon, who directed the film.

This is the fifth time they have collaborated in this way, and it is not pleasant to say - but the results have always been the least good films in the actress' excellent career.

The failing chain started with "Tami", and now continues with "Thunder Power".

The film tries to ride on the current popularity of superheroes and superheroes, but is similar to the blockbusters it mimics as a bouncy pizza similar to a dish that came out of the oven.

"Power of Thunder" looks like someone heated cheese on pita in the microwave and tried to pretend it was real pizza, and at least when it comes to this genre, Netflix's competitors can currently sleep soundly.
