They want the truth so that "these facts do not happen again and that the patients end their life in good human conditions".

The three children of a nonagenarian, residing at the nursing home of La Chevalière in Mazamet (Tarn), announce, in La Dépêche du Midi, to have lodged a complaint for manslaughter.

“We received the complaint and an investigation was opened.

Checks are underway, ”confirmed Cherif Chabbi, public prosecutor of Castres.

According to them, their father, who died on March 30 from Covid-19, was "tied to his chair for 15 days".

They reproach facts of mistreatment.

It all began on March 15 when Georges Bordes, 93, resident of this retirement home, an institution in the city of southern Tarn for decades, tested positive for the coronavirus.

The family specifies that they had refused to have him vaccinated.

“The establishment asked the family doctor to write a prescription to prescribe a physical restraint, tells the regional daily, Didier the eldest son and legal guardian of Georges Bordes.

Because we know him well, my brother Denis and I, this doctor contacted us to warn us that he was going to issue this prescription “reluctantly, but that was the protocol”.

So we knew that our father, for eight days, was going to be tied to the chair in his room.

From that day on, we never saw him again… ”, he says sadly.

A protocol "not easy for families to understand"

Except that according to the testimony of a nurse from the establishment who would have recovered the three children, “he remained during the fifteen days preceding his death, shackled in this chair during the day and under heavy sleeping pills at night.

All this so that he cannot leave his room and walk around ”.

One way to prevent residents from contaminating other occupants.

“I am fighting against this protocol.

I find it inhuman, my father suffered the costs and the elders do not deserve that ”, continues the son, on the site of the regional radio 100%.

On the side of the management of the establishment, it is considered to have followed the prescriptions of the attending physician and proceeded to isolation.

"We are very surprised, and quite angry at what may have appeared in the press," explains Sarah Caminade Marty, director of the nursing home.

Being accused of manslaughter knowing that we are only applying protocols, recommendations and medical prescriptions.

I can understand that people are sad about the death of their parents, but to blame it on us, it's a little complicated, ”considers, on the radio 100%, Sarah Caminade Marty.

Covid-19 in nursing homes: security and freedom, the dilemma for caregivers

According to a caregiver contacted by Le Parisien, in a similar establishment in the south of the Tarn, the restraint is "decided when the positive residents wander in the corridors at the risk of infecting others.

This often happens even though this story is shocking ”.

And the professional, who has already experienced a similar situation, warns: “the word attach is perhaps misunderstood.

The restraint can be done without securing the patient, there are barriers, sheets, restraint belts.

Families have difficulty understanding this restraint protocol, we often have to explain that the person represents a danger to others ”.

The medical staff of this associative structure, in shock, should soon be heard by the courts, just like the family doctor who prescribed this restraint, assures France Bleu.
