Rapper and actor Earl Simmons, known as DMX or Dark Man X, passed away today (Friday) in New York - the media in the United States reported.
This, following a heart attack during what was described in media reports as an overdose of drugs.
He was 50 years old and left behind 15 children.
Among the singer's biggest hits were "Party Up (Up in Here)" and "X Gon 'Give It To Ya".
But at the same time, her career has been fraught with conflicts with the law and various arrests.
DMX grew up in Yonkers, New York, and took his stage name from a drum machine used in rap songs.
In an interview he previously gave to a documentary series aired on BET, he said that when he was 14, an adult rapper he had as a mentor led him to crack crack.
"He created a monster," he said, "cocaine almost took my life on several occasions."
His 1998 debut album, "It's Dark and Hell is Hot," was the first of five in a row to qualify for Billboard's 200 most successful albums in the United States.
He was the only rapper with this achievement, according to a profile article written about him in GQ magazine in 2019. DMX told the same magazine that he studied the Bible and would pray before and after each performance.
"To appear before people is beyond the hi that any drug can produce," he said.
The rapper's intense songs featured stories of "sins in the streets" of complex characters, written about in a biography on the Allmusic website, who described DMX as "Johnny Cash of Hip Hop".
His album, "Then And Then There Was X", was his most successful, in what was defined as a pentagonal platinum.
In all, DMX released eight albums and was nominated for three Grammy Awards.
At the same time he participated in more than 40 films and series, and sometimes contributed to their soundtrack.

Before he died, his ex-wife Tasha Simmons, the mother of four of his children, attended a gathering in his honor outside the hospital as hundreds of his fans danced to his songs.
"Love is real," she wrote on Instagram.
In 2017, DMX pleaded guilty in federal court to evading $ 1.7 million in tax payments between 2000 and 2005 by transferring funds between the accounts of executives and consultants.
He was sentenced to one year in prison.
He was previously arrested for animal cruelty, reckless driving, drug possession, weapons offenses and violations of release conditions.
Following this, he served time in prisons in the states of Arizona and New York.
