Eurovision 2021: Eden Elena climbs in the betting, but it does not guarantee anything

In the run-up to Eurovision 2021, we looked at what things would look like this year because of the Corona, whether Israeli amateurs plan to conquer Rotterdam despite restrictions, what the Corona's situation is in the host Netherlands, and whether gambling agencies are finally starting to pargan or whether Europe is still antisemitic.

In less than three weeks the unbelievable will happen and rehearsals for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam are underway.

The Dutch are already working hard to set up the most glittering stage in the world and everyone is doing everything so that on May 18 at 22:00 exactly Israel time, the sounds of Te Daum, the mythological opening of the competition, will be heard, and hundreds of millions of viewers can say "What are these songs, this The worst year ", as they say every year since 1957, the second Eurovision.

Towards Money Time we checked what things would look different this year because of the Corona, whether Israeli amateurs plan to conquer Rotterdam despite the restrictions, what the Corona situation is in the host Netherlands, and whether the betting agencies are finally starting to pargan or whether Europe is still antisemitic.

Cautious optimism in gambling agencies

We'll start from the end, what the agencies say.

At the time of writing, the song "Set Me Free", which represented Israel in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, is ranked 19th in the chances of winning.

By April 18 Eden had already touched 17th place, but given that we started our journey to Rotterdam in 40th place, the bottom of the top ten also sounds like a not bad gift.

When diving to bet on the first semi-final, Eden and Israel are ranked 11th in the chances of qualifying.

Recall that in order to reach the Eurovision final, one must finish in the top ten countries.

It is hard to believe that Croatia, which is ranked tenth, will pass Eden, but even at the bottom there are strong countries and the increase will probably be really borderline.

What are the real chances we can only know next month, after we finally see the first rehearsals and get a first glimpse of the Israeli stage and direction, and of course how Eden performs the song live.

Leading the betting tables are Malta, France, and Switzerland, we'll be back to them.

Insulations, masks, and tests

Every amateur, journalist, production person, and artist who has participated in the Eurovision once in their life knows the carnival around the competition. You too probably remember how the whole of Tel Aviv breathed Eurovision, with the famous Euroleague and Euroclub, alongside street parties and bars that received thousands of passers-by. This year Rotterdam will look completely different, without the Eurovision Village, without official or informal parties, but with lots of testing.

All staff members, members of the delegations, including the participating artists, and journalists who come to cover the competition will be examined by Corona. The production is now examining whether to perform the test once every three days, day in and day out, intermittently, and even daily. No, there are no facilities for the vaccinated or those coming from green countries. Surgical masks or reusable cloth masks are also not acceptable for production, only N95 or FFP2 masks are allowed for use in the press room and the Eurovision bubble.

The production even recommends that those coming to the Netherlands go into independent home isolation for five days before the trip, to make sure that those who come to the Eurovision Song Contest do little in social gatherings.

Those who do arrive will only be able to do so with a PCR test performed no more than 72 hours before the flight, combined with a rapid antigen test performed less than 24 hours after takeoff.

If you can provide a PCR test in less than 24 hours of takeoff - you will not need another test.

All this while the Netherlands is suffering from a third wave of Corona.

In the last seven days, the average number of new cases stands at more than 7,600 per day, and the daily death toll stands at 21 on average.

The national infection rate in the Netherlands is 1.06.

In the Netherlands there are more than 17 million inhabitants and so far about 4.6 million vaccine doses have been given, about one and a half million inhabitants have been vaccinated in two doses.

The amateurs want to come, but stay at home

One of the hallmarks of the modern Eurovision is the thousands of amateurs crammed into the standing area and hiding the good shooting angles with their giant flags.

This year we will not see them, and if you thought that the Eurovision in Tel Aviv had a small audience, the 2021 Eurovision in Rotterdam would be really minimal.

Only 3,500 spectators will be allowed to enter the arena, all sitting.

The standing area will be completely eliminated.

The Green Room, which in Tel Aviv was exiled to a separate hall, will return to the main hall and even grow.

There will be no amateurs between the green rum and the stage, and the delegations will be asked not to mingle with each other but to share fun in the air and long-distance kisses.

The number of people allowed to enter Green Room for each delegation has also been reduced.

In previous years, we have seen thousands of amateurs from across the continent, including dozens of Israelis who come to the host country even if they do not have a ticket for the show itself.

Some settled for a ticket to one of the rehearsals, some managed to get a ticket near the show hall, and others simply enjoyed the atmosphere in the city and the many Eurovision parties.

"I want to get there but the main problem is the isolation issue that I'm waiting for details about," Lavalle says!

Culture Omri Arad, Eurovision fan.

"I will not travel if there is isolation and if I can not get into rehearsals at least. The parties at the Euroclub are less important to me, the main thing is to see one of the performances."

Ben Yahav Nevat, an Israeli living in Spain, is actually more optimistic: "I'll get a ticket, I'm working on it."

And what if he does not succeed?

"So I will not travel, but living in Spain allows me flexibility in decision making."

Harel, a surfer on the Israeli Eurovision fan page, has already given up on the dream of encouraging Eden Elena from the audience: "I really want to travel, but it looks like a lost battle in advance. It is doubtful if there are flights and even if it is almost impossible to enter the hall. .

Australia also stays at home

Not only will Israeli amateurs stay home this year, the Australian delegation will not be coming to Rotterdam either.

Yesterday, the Australian broadcast network announced that Montaigne, the singer who represents the country and the entire delegation will not be able to reach the Netherlands due to restrictions imposed on departing from and leaving Australia.

This means Australia will be attending the Eurovision Song Contest using pre-recorded backup tape, meaning no directing changes, corrections, tweaks can be made, and anything else that could improve the song's chances of qualifying for the final and finishing in a high place.

Will one of these songs be the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest?

And here we are back to the betting agencies, with three surprising countries starring at the top.

In first place is Malta, which has never won a competition.

This is the island's 33rd appearance for the first time at the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest, whose record achievement is second place in 2002 and 2005.

We remember Malta mainly as a country that almost robbed Madonna International of its 1998 victory.

Malta is participating in the first semi-final with Eden Elena, and according to the betting agencies it will advance to the final from first place.

In second place is France starring with the song "Voilà", by singer Barbara Pravi.

As part of the top five countries alongside Italy, Britain, Germany, and Spain, France will automatically participate in the final.

France has won five times before, but the last time was in 1977, when most of you were not yet born.

Her last good achievement was in 2016, when Amir Haddad represented her and came in sixth place.

In third place in the chances of winning is Switzerland, which, thank God, will compete in the second semi-final and will not take Israel's place.

The singer who calls himself Gyons Tires directs in French "Tout l'univers" - the whole universe.

It is interesting to note that two of the top three songs are in French and that the last time a song won in French was in 1988. Even then it was Switzerland, represented by the same anonymous and young singer named Celine Dion.
