Three million deaths, one billion doses of vaccines injected, a record of nearly 900,000 new contaminations in 24 hours: here are the three figures that best summarize the situation in the world this Saturday, April 23, marked in particular by the still exponential growth of the epidemic in the world.

On the French side, the figures are relatively stable, describing an epidemic plateau, with just under 6,000 patients in critical care, more than 32,000 new infections and 220 new deaths.

5,958 patients in critical care

In total, there were 5,958 people in critical care services (which include resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring) against 5,962 patients the day before.

For ten days, the number of patients in intensive care has been close to 6,000.

A figure below the peak of the first wave in April 2020 (around 7,000) but higher than that of the second wave in the fall (4,900).

In 24 hours, 348 patients were admitted to these services which treat the most serious cases, against 436 patients the day before.

The total number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients is down slightly, to 30,100 against 30,438 patients identified on Friday.

In terms of contamination, 32,633 new cases were listed against 32,340 the day before.

The positivity rate - percentage of people infected among those who are tested - is 10% (over the last seven days, consolidated at D-3).

Regarding deaths, 220 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, for a total of 102,742 since the start of the epidemic (including 76,531 in hospital).

More than 14 million first-time vaccinated

In terms of vaccination, 14,012,202 people received at least one injection of vaccine and 5,498,809 people received both doses, according to the Directorate General of Health (DGS).
