On April 14, the Court of Cassation confirmed that the alleged perpetrator of the murder of this Jewish sexagenarian in 2017 in Paris was irresponsible.

Several "gatherings of anger" are planned this Sunday in Paris and in other cities of France, at the call of citizen collectives and representatives of the Jewish community, to challenge the lack of trial after the murder of Sarah Halimi .

Under the slogan "Without justice, no Republic", the main gathering will take place from 2pm at Place du Trocadéro in Paris, at the initiative of a collective, "Agissons pour Sarah Halimi".

This mobilization responds to the confirmation, on April 14, by the Court of Cassation, of the criminal irresponsibility of the murderer of the Jewish sexagenarian killed in 2017 in Paris, hospitalized in psychiatry since this crime.

The highest court of the judiciary confirmed the anti-Semitic nature of the crime, but confirmed the impossibility of trying the murderer, given the abolition of his discernment during the facts.

According to the seven psychiatric experts who examined him, Kobili Traore, a heavy cannabis user, was in the throes of a "delirious puff" when he killed his 65-year-old neighbor, Lucie Attal, also known as Sarah Halimi.

The Paris Court of Appeal had concluded that there was a mental disorder that had abolished its judgment or the control of its acts at the time of the facts, which the Court of Cassation deemed to be in accordance with the law.

Macron wants "a change in the law"

The impossibility of a trial has aroused great misunderstanding within a part of the French Jewish community, targeted by several deadly attacks in recent years.

It has also sparked a heated debate on the criminal liability of people with psychiatric disorders on the background of drug use, and President Emmanuel Macron has called for "a change in the law".

"It is a national emotion, the principle laid down by this judgment is incomprehensible (...) we expect a very strong mobilization, in the name of justice, law, intelligence, the fight against anti-Semitism" , declared before the demonstration the chief rabbi of France Haïm Korsia.

William Attal, brother of Sarah Hamili, should make the trip on purpose from Israel, his lawyer announced on LCI on Saturday.

Other gatherings are planned this Sunday in Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon, Strasbourg and Nice.

Abroad, calls to demonstrate in front of French embassies and consulates were also relayed on social networks.
