Volkswagen unveils the sportiest of the ID.4, the GTX.

Top of the range of the all-electric model of the Wolfsburg company, it has two engines that together develop a maximum power of 299 hp and are able to work in synergy creating a new generation electric all-wheel drive.

Presented in world preview during a live streaming pyrotechnics, ID.4 GTX stands out for its grit and slender lines that favor aerodynamic penetration, but with particular attention to the look.

The ground clearance of 17 centimeters allows you to tackle even light off-road vehicles.

The four-wheel drive of the ID.4 GTX is based on an unprecedented architecture, with the two electric motors that respectively drive the rear and front wheels by means of a single-speed gearbox without - unlike a traditional four-wheel drive - any mechanical connection between the two. axes. And, therefore, without central tunnel in the passenger compartment. The management of the four-wheel drive is based on an intelligent control system that decides how to distribute the drive torque available between the two electric motors: in many driving situations, the 204 HP permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle is able to to provide traction on its own. For a sporty driving style or if more traction is required, the asynchronous motor on the front axle is activated within milliseconds.

In the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h, the chronometer stops at 6.2 seconds while the maximum speed is self-limited to 180 km / h. The SUV can count on a declared autonomy of 480 km (in the WLTP cycle) thanks to a battery with 77 kWh of energy (net), which thanks to a maximum charge power of 125 kW, can be recharged quickly. The declared power consumption is between 19.1 and 18.1 kWh / 100 km according to the NEDC cycle.

The recovery system is very advanced: by acting on the gear selector, the driver decides whether the ID.4 GTX must recover energy as soon as the accelerator is released. In D (Drive) mode, the car coasts and the electric motors run virtually without load. By selecting mode B (Brake), on the other hand, the motors are transformed into generators and recharge the battery. The Eco Assistant system monitors coasting and recovery as the car approaches an area where speed needs to be reduced.

The GTX abbreviation identifies the flagship sports variant within the ID range, similarly to GTI, GTE and GTD.

The letters GT recall driving pleasure while the letter X represents the link with the mobility of the future.

After the ID.4 GTX, other models bearing the new abbreviation will follow.

20 "wheels (also 21" on request), differentiated tires (235 mm at the front, 255 mm at the rear), five driving profiles and adjustable shock absorbers (optional) complete the identity of the ID.4 GTX, which will debut on European markets in summer 2021. In Germany, the base price is 50,415 euros.
