A truck driver was killed on a Somme motorway rest area, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, the Amiens prosecutor's office announced on Monday.
An investigation for intentional homicide was opened after this stabbing death.
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, this man of Romanian origin, who was transporting parcels loaded in England to Spain, was "fatally shot by stabbing in the heart and back" while he was on a motorway area of the A28, between Abbeville and Rouen, said the prosecutor of the Republic of Amiens, Alexandre de Bosschère.
The attackers still on the run
According to the first elements of the investigation, the victim, aged 39, who was accompanied by his wife, also a driver of heavy goods vehicles, left the vehicle a few moments after hearing a noise.
On his return, the driver was "seriously injured", and despite the arrival of help warned by his wife, "he quickly succumbed".
For the time being, the attacker (s) have not been arrested, specifies La Voix du Nord.
An autopsy was performed on Monday to confirm the cause of death, adds the local daily.
An investigation for intentional homicide was opened and entrusted to the research section of the Amiens gendarmerie.
