Bars, hotels, theaters and cinemas are opening in Austria

04.25 a.m.:

Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) described the day as the »starting point for our fight back to normal«: After several months of lockdown, bars and hotels, theaters and cinemas as well as sports facilities and fitness studios are opening in the country today. The prerequisite for the use of all these facilities is that the guests have either tested negative for the coronavirus, have recovered from Covid disease or have a vaccination.

France is also significantly easing its corona measures.

"From May 19th we have to rediscover our French way of life," said French President Emmanuel Macron.

A major easing is the postponement of the evening curfew from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In addition, the outdoor areas of the restaurants as well as the shops and cultural institutions are allowed to open again from today.

Germans worked almost 1.7 billion hours of overtime in 2020

3:53 a.m.:

Despite the pandemic, employees in Germany worked 1.67 billion hours of overtime last year.

This emerges from a response by the federal government to a request from the left in the Bundestag, from which the news agency dpa quotes.

The data come from the Institute for Employment Research.

It is true that the number of overtime has decreased compared to the previous year, as can be seen from the information;

at the time it had totaled 1.86 billion.

But little has changed in terms of overtime as a percentage of the work volume: it was 3.2 percent.

That was only 0.3 percentage points less than in the previous year.

More than half of the overtime - 892 million - was unpaid.

While paid overtime decreased by 15.4 percent compared to the previous year, unpaid overtime only fell by 5.8 percent.

"Now it is important to reach the many not yet vaccinated risk-takers," said Lauterbach of the "Rheinische Post".

The prioritization should be strictly adhered to up to this point in time.

From June 7th, the priority lists according to age, illnesses and occupation will no longer apply to corona vaccinations, as Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) announced on Monday.
