The Israeli cyber company, Check Point, found serious security breaches in dozens of applications downloaded from the store. Those loopholes, according to the researchers' findings, revealed private information about over 100 million users through incorrect definition of cloud services. The information disclosed as a result includes, but is not limited to, email addresses, personal messages, location data, passwords, user photos and more. In the wrong hands, this data can lead to fraud, identity theft and even worse, especially if some of you use the same passwords on several sites.

According to a report by Check Point, the company mentioned only 5 applications out of the 23 and they are: Ifax, Screen recorder, an astrology, taxi, logo-maker, T'Leva, Astro Guru.

The rest of the apps have not been released yet because the developers have not updated them yet, but they do take screenshots, check apps, generate accounts, and even popular messaging apps.

Therefore, if you are using the apps for the specified categories, check when the last update was made, and whether the developer is selling.

Check Point's research team found databases from 13 different apps, which are updated in real time. The information in them is available to the public and is not protected. This is a particularly worrying statistic, as the same applications have been downloaded tens of thousands of times to ten million times. The team also found that certain alerts and cloud storage identification keys were incorporated into the code itself of some of the apps. Among them you can find an astrology app, a taxi booking service, an application for screen recording and another for sending a fax - all of which allowed hackers to receive information about users and developers. For example, the "Screen Recorder" app, which has been downloaded over 10 million times, allowed malicious parties to gain access to the screen recordings made through it. In addition to this, "iFax", which has been downloaded almost a million times, allowed access to all the documents scanned through it.

It is important to note that this is a known loophole, and for several years now it has continued to be common.

In doing so, it affects hundreds of millions of people every year.

In fact, Check Point confirmed that all their investigators did was try to access the information.

According to them, there was no safety net at all that prevented their access to the database.

The company contacted Google and the app developers and shared with them the damages that were revealed.

Some of them have already announced that we have updated them in order to resolve the issue.

This is how you will protect yourself

First and foremost, download apps only through the official Google or Apple store and not through third-party sources.

Try not to use the same login information in any application and pay attention to which companies you give personal information to, such as address, location and passwords.

We have also updated your smartphone to the latest version.
