If the public prosecutor ruled out any dysfunction on Tuesday in the tragedy that unfolded in Hayange, the president of the regional council

The president (LR) of the Grand Est regional council, Jean Rottner, called on Wednesday for “an administrative investigation” after the feminicide committed in the night from Sunday to Monday in Hayange (Moselle) on a young woman of 22 years.

"This drama raises questions, the link between the police and justice, the follow-up of reports, the follow-up of complaints", declared Jean Rottner, questioned on LCI.

"I think there has to be an administrative investigation."

"There was still a problem," said the president of the region, candidate for his own succession in the Grand Est.

He mentioned the complaint for violence filed last November 3 by the victim against his companion, and underlined the “recurrent testimony from neighbors, which explains that the police made a lot of visits to this family”.

Tuesday, the public prosecutor of Metz, Christian Mercuri, had ruled out any “dysfunction of the judicial services in this case”, stressing that the public prosecutor had not been informed by the police of the filing in January 2020 of a handbook, then in November 2020 of a complaint by the young woman against her companion, a 23-year-old Serbian national, with political refugee status.

"I am challenged by this situation," said Marlène Schiappa, guest on Franceinfo on Wednesday.

"We, with the Minister of the Interior, gave a very firm instruction, as soon as we took office (in July 2020, Editor's note), saying that with regard to domestic violence, it must be complaints (rather as handrails, Editor's note), and 100% of complaints must be taken, qualified and transmitted to the prosecution ”.

The suspect, who had been imprisoned since November 26 in a traffic offenses case, had thus benefited from a modified sentence and was able to continue his home detention under electronic surveillance from May 13, ten days before the occurrence of the feminicide.

This man was not identified by justice "as a violent spouse", had insisted Christian Mercuri, to justify the adjustment of sentence to the marital home.

On Wednesday, a rally in tribute to the victim is to be held at 6:00 p.m. in front of the Hayange town hall.
