A backpack containing a large amount of ammunition was found Wednesday in Belgium, as part of the hunt for a soldier considered extremely dangerous.

New operations to find Jürgen Conings have, according to the newspaper Het Belang van Limburg, enabled the special units to find the bag in Dilsen-Stokkem, near the place where the car of the military and far-right sympathizer threatening to attack personalities.

According to RTBF, the backpack contained a box of hunting ammunition of a caliber identical to one of the weapons carried by the suspect.

It also contained food and showed traces of moisture, suggesting that it may have been abandoned or lost for some time.

The federal prosecutor refused to answer questions from the press, he just confirmed that certain objects were being analyzed.

Jürgen Conings is a 46-year-old soldier and supporter of the far right. He disappeared on May 17 after stealing weapons from his military base. The same evening, according to the Minister of Justice, he had spent “more than two hours in the neighborhood of a target”. He was then in the Dutch-speaking province of Limburg, in the north of the country, not far from the border with the Netherlands.
