Computer game maker Electronic Arts (EA) has been the victim of a cyber attack in which hackers stole game source code and other software tools.
The hackers had, among other things, stolen the source code of games such as
"
Fifa 21", "The Sims" and "Battlefield", the company announced on Thursday.
However, personal data of players are not affected, emphasized a spokesman.
According to EA, the police were turned on, and investigations are ongoing.
In addition, the company has tightened its security precautions.
According to a report by the magazine "Vice", hackers had bragged about the attack on EA in chat forums on the Internet and offered the stolen software on the Darknet.
There they also shared a small selection of screenshots intended to prove access.
In total, the attackers are said to have stolen 780 GB of data.
The loss of source code could become a problem for EA's business as it could be copied or reused by other developers.
