With no material element other than DNA traces, the research section took 45 samples from relatives, colleagues and then the

No motive, no explanation, but scientific evidence.

After weeks of careful investigation, a 17-year-old young man was indicted for intentional homicide in Guadeloupe, for the murder of a mother, killed at her home on February 24, in Baie-Mahault.

Until then, the death of Séverine Rambhojan, 34, was a mystery.

Her companion Xavier had found her lying on his way home from his job as a butcher.

She had a wound on her neck.

Teleworking from home, she still wore her work helmet on her ears.

The investigation, entrusted to the Research Section of the Gendarmerie, "was extremely long and complex because at the beginning several plausible leads could be retained and all were exploited, verified in an extremely precise way", indicated the prosecutor of Pointe- à-Pitre, Patrick Desjardins, Thursday during a press conference.

Technical observations were made in particular by the IRCGN (Criminal Research Institute of the Gendarmerie).

Agents of this specialized service, coming from the hexagon, "passed the house with a fine comb and found traces of DNA unknown of the file FNAEG".

"Not at all the profile of a delinquent"

You then had to match that DNA to a person. "Several DNA collection campaigns" were carried out, and "a total of 45 people collected" before finding a corresponding suspect. The research was first oriented towards "the family or professional circle", before expanding. It is in this way that the investigators found the teenager, residing in "the geographical vicinity" of Séverine Rambhojan, specified Patrick Desjardins. Arrested and placed in police custody, "he admitted to being the author of the fatal blow, carried with a knife, on the victim".

The teenager, "unknown to the services and who does not have the profile of a delinquent at all", was heard by the investigating judge in charge of the case. Thursday evening, he had not yet given a motive according to the same source: "for the moment it remains rather obscure, the investigators are still struggling to understand the real reasons for the intrusion of the person concerned and his passage to the criminal act ”. Séverine Rambhojan and her companion had a 9-year-old daughter, absent from the house at the time of the facts.
