Johnson & Johnson has to destroy millions of vaccine doses after production stoppages

3:12 a.m.:

After a production

breakdown

in a US plant, the corona vaccine manufacturer Johnson & Johnson has to destroy millions of vaccine doses. The FDA announced that several batches of several million doses each were unusable due to possible contamination. Neither the FDA nor the manufacturer gave an exact number. The "New York Times" reported, citing informed circles, that 60 million vaccine doses were affected.

Emergent BioSolutions, which manufactures the corona vaccine for Johnson & Johnson in a plant in Baltimore, Maryland, stopped production in April by order of the FDA after the ingredients of the preparation accidentally mixed with those of the AstraZeneca vaccine had been swapped.

It is currently being tested to ensure that 60 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Baltimore meet quality standards.

The FDA has given clearance for ten million doses of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine.

The figures are based on official data evaluated by the Reuters news agency.
