The pandemic has killed more than 3,787,127 people around the world since the end of December 2019, according to a report established by AFP from official sources on Saturday at 10 a.m. GMT.
After the United States (599,663 dead), the countries recording the highest number of deaths are Brazil (486,272), India (367,081), Mexico (229,823) and Peru (188,100), the latter country deploring the higher death toll in relation to its population.
These figures, which are based on daily reports from national health authorities, are generally underestimated.
The WHO estimates that the toll of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that officially recorded.
