Apple is now also selling an external battery that is magnetically attached to the iPhone for charging. However, the power bank is only available for some models.

After Apple introduced the “MagSafe” wireless charging system for iPhones many months ago, the company also launched its own matching power bank on Tuesday.

The external MagSafe battery is magnetically attached to the back of the iPhone and can thus charge the device wirelessly.

So far, there have only been additional batteries from third parties that use the MagSafe system.

The official model from Apple only works with the iPhone models 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 12 Mini and 12. In addition, the iOS 14.7 operating system, which should be available shortly, is required to use the MagSafe battery.

The external power bank costs 109 euros and charges 12-generation iPhones with up to 5 watts on the go.

If the additional battery itself is connected to a charger with 20 watts or more and is attached to the iPhone at the same time, the smartphone battery can be charged with up to 15 watts.

The MagSafe battery also charges at the same time.

According to the industry magazine "9to5mac", the external battery should have a capacity of 1460 milliamps.

This should allow an iPhone 12 Mini to be fully charged once and an iPhone 12 to be largely charged.

External batteries from third-party suppliers offer significantly more capacity.

The charge status of the external battery from Apple can be seen on the iPhone directly in the battery widget.

Apple apparently wants to produce significantly more iPhones

According to insiders, the company plans to significantly increase its smartphone production compared to last year.

Apple has asked its suppliers to build up to 90 million next-generation iPhones this year, the Bloomberg news agency reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The technology group from Cupertino, California, has maintained a constant level of around 75 million units from launch to the end of the year over the past few years.

The raised forecast for 2021 could indicate that the iPhone manufacturer expects additional demand with the introduction of the new iPhone due to the progressive vaccinations against Covid-19.

This year's update will focus on the processor, the camera and improvements to the display, it was said from circles.

All current models are to be refreshed.

The new smartphones are to be announced in September this year.

In 2020, Apple did not introduce the new models until October due to problems with the supply chain.
