A man has been indicted and imprisoned and three suspects are on the run after the shooting death of a 34-year-old man in the street in Cholet (Maine-et-Loire), the prosecutor's office announced on Sunday.

"A judicial investigation for assassination was opened" Sunday and "the man who was in police custody was indicted for non-prevention of crime and non-assistance to anyone in danger", told AFP on Angers prosecutor Éric Bouillard.

"He was taken into custody and his three co-perpetrators are still wanted," added the magistrate.

Death after an altercation

The 34-year-old victim was killed by two bullets in the neck and in the back, Place Travot in Cholet (Maine-et-Loire), in the night from Friday to Saturday.

The man concerned, of Martinican origin, "was in an evening in which there was an altercation", explained the public prosecutor on Saturday.

After leaving the evening, while he was at the main square of Cholet, a car, with several people on board, including the imprisoned man, came to his level.

Shots were fired behind his back.

The judicial police were seized of the investigation.
