Before going abroad, the question arises: is the digital vaccination card also valid at the travel destination? The official app now offers a test and thus avoids nasty surprises.

A vaccination certificate alone is no guarantee that a trip will go smoothly.

In version 2.6.1 of the app, Deutsche Telekom and SAP have therefore integrated a new function: shortly before a trip, users can use it to check whether their certificate is sufficient for the travel destination.

The update was published on Wednesday and should be available in the app stores by Friday at the latest. The certificates had already been moved to a new tab with the previous update, where both tests and vaccinations are now listed. A test function has been added.

Since the corona rules can change relatively quickly in view of the constant new developments, travelers should check their certificate 48 hours before departure. This is done using the “Check validity” button, which is located directly under the QR code of the vaccination certificate. To do this, you must first tap the country on the right and select your travel destination from the list that then appears, and you must enter the exact time of departure. At the start, however, only Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Luxembourg and Lithuania made their rules available digitally. Other countries are to follow in the coming weeks.

A new addition is the better localization of the app.

Instead of the nationwide values, users can now also have the local seven-day incidence displayed on the start screen, which has a direct impact on the rules that apply to them.

According to a Bitkom survey, 42 percent of smartphone users (aged 16 and over) in Germany have already saved their digital vaccination certificate on their own device, and two percent on someone else's smartphone.

Another 41 percent want to get the digital proof in the future - 26 percent "in any case" and 15 percent "probably".

Only 12 percent state that they are not interested in the digital proof even though they have a smartphone.
