What would Giovanni Bertone say to that?
The Italian car developer once founded the design studio Bertone, which helped shape the styles of Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo.
His successors also worked for Mercedes, Volvo - and Citroën.
The designers drew the Xantia for the French.
A car owner has now worked on this model - with a saw.
Motorway police stopped the unusual vehicle on the A20 motorway towards the Atlantic coast.
Because he didn't have enough money for a convertible, the driver had sawn off the roof of the 20-year-old car and created an open top, as announced by the police on Facebook.
The hobbyist also equipped the radiator grille with an Audi logo, and a BMW logo was stuck to the rear.
The police pulled the car out of circulation because the idiosyncratic “concept car made in France” was not allowed.
There was criticism in the comment column.
"I don't see where the problem is, the gendarmes could have turned a blind eye," wrote one user.
"They have nothing better to do," commented another of the police action, it was better to hunt down drug traffickers.
"I don't know whether the vehicle is good for attracting girls," pondered another reader.
"Maybe at night, in fog, and with a few alcohols ..."
