Misunderstanding on the A1 motorway: two dead and six injured, a call for witnesses launched

A serious accident killed two people during the night from Friday to Saturday near Ronchin, near Lille (North), on the A1 motorway.

An investigation will have to determine it but in the aftermath of the tragedy, it is time to mourn.

Two people, a driver and her passenger, both around 25 years old according to emergency estimates, died instantly after hitting two cars, relay our colleagues from the Voix du Nord.

The Lucerne CRS have launched an appeal for witnesses to try to gather elements that could explain the tragedy.

Any witnesses to the accident or anyone who saw the Peugeot driving in the wrong direction, at the junction between the A 1 motorway and the N 356 which leads to Lille center, are asked to contact 03.20.19.49. 40.

Two people in serious condition

According to the first known elements, the young woman and her passenger were driving against the flow of traffic on the A1 motorway near Ronchin, near Lille (North).

Their vehicle ended its race on the roof after colliding with a Mercedes and a third vehicle, which were traveling normally.

In total, six

people in the crashed cars were injured, two of them seriously.

All were transported to the Lille Regional Hospital Center, says La Voix du Nord.

The accident mobilized 29 firefighters from Villeneuve-d'Ascq, Lille-Bouvines, Haubourdin and Lesquin, as well as the Interdepartmental Roads Directorate (DIR), the police, the CRS of the Four Cantons and several Smur teams.

Analyzes should make it possible to establish whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
