British justice on Wednesday refused the request of footballer Benjamin Mendy to release him under judicial supervision.
The French Manchester City international, accused of four rapes and one sexual assault, has been detained at HMP Altcourse prison in Liverpool since Friday.
Mendy, 27, was not present at the hearing, which was held behind closed doors in a Chester court.
The hearing lasted 50 minutes.
Benjamin Mendy is scheduled to appear before Chester Crown Court on September 10.
The defender did not plead in court but vigorously denies the charges.
A second man, 40, was arrested on suspicion of rape in connection with the investigation he was released on bail, the Cheshire Constabulary said.
Accused of four rapes
Benjamin Mendy is accused of three rapes in October 2020 and one rape in August 2021, at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire, about thirty kilometers from Manchester.
He is also accused of sexual assault on a woman, also at his home, in early January 2021. The alleged assaults concern three women, including a minor.
On November 11, the French footballer was arrested by the police following the first charge of rape and then released on bail.
Ditto in January after the alleged sexual assault.
Following these first two cases, Mendy was notably prohibited from organizing parties at his home.
However, at the beginning of last week, he received in his vast residence some twenty guests.
Including a young woman who then accused him of having raped her.
This party triggered his arrest, and his suspension from the club.
According to The Sun, the 2018 world champion was disillusioned when he understood that the protected district "VP" where he was going to be imprisoned at Altcourse was not the "VIP" district.
Since arriving in England, Mendy has been the delight of the tabloid press, more for his speeding tickets than for his sporting shots. A year ago, his Lamborghini, worth more than 500,000 euros, was seized. He drove her without a license or insurance. He had pleaded guilty and was fined just over 1,000 euros.
