Calling it "racism of low expectations" is one of the latest developments in this world and what he is saying, by and large, is that lowering expectations or treating facilitators to population groups of a particular origin just because of their origin is racism.

Well, I want to confess - it turns out I'm a racist of low expectations.

And the new Qashqai slapped me that fact straight in the face.

It's true that we're supposed to get to a test car with no discounts, but sometimes it's not really successful and when I approached Qashqai, the premise was that it's a hysterical bestseller, but he never did it because he was the best on his team.

I remembered the outgoing generation as an efficient, but not exciting vehicle and popular crossovers the expectations are not very high anyway - and then he threw one straight at me.

Standing

The alignment of the line that Qashqai did with the appearance of Nissan's contemporary model line and those that will arrive soon did him good.

Beautiful or not, everyone will decide - but it definitely breaks the stereotypes of the outgoing generation, with its special lighting, huge grille and inflatable body.

Whoever started sometime in the mid-2000s as a high-back was equipped with a fashionable look with all the contemporary elements in his genre.

And it happens both inside the vehicle, the initial impression and also later on is of a cabin that looks good, is well planned and executed to a good standard.

I have only a slight reservation there from uncharacteristic panel spacings in the door and clicks from the front of the dashboard (the latter appear on a slow ride on a bumpy road).

The quality of the materials is impressive and except for the lower part of the climate control line and below they are pleasant to look at and touch.

The cabin is very nice, even in the level of equipment below the one examined (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The test car came in the senior Tekna finish level but not recommended among the finish levels (explained below).

This means a lot of equipment such as a top view, wireless charging for a mobile phone, an electric trunk, an electric driver's seat, back support for the seats, mood lighting in the doors and more.

What was more impressive was the safety specification that does not change between trim levels and includes, among other things, a seventh airbag between driver and passenger, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, "dead zone" vehicle warning, detecting signs and correcting deviation from a path that works unpleasantly using brakes and no steering wheel .

And this is not a bad thing, because after a repair or two - you will make sure to drive properly.

Good and simple human engineering, everything is clear, everything is easy to operate (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The human engineering is also commendable, with a clear arrangement of control controls, operation of the multimedia system (9 inches, including compatibility with Android and Apple), climate control and data display in the very large digital dashboard (12.3 inches) and top view projected on the windshield.

Just take a tip - do not rely on the speed control reading system.

Too often it has stated a speed different from what is actually allowed, in many cases upwards.

The front seats feature a good structure that provides comfort and body support.

The seating is high and the view out is very good, I went back to the test of the previous generation of the Qashqai to make sure that I remembered a field of vision less good than the current one and indeed the new generation improved it significantly.

So the view out is very good, and for those who prefer a high driving position it will also be easy to find the corners of the chassis even though the front parking sensors do a great job here anyway.

This is not an extra cm like the new design that produces a very good space here (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The improvement also continues to the rear seat and starts with doors that open at a right angle and allow easy entry for adults and great access if you need to harness a child to a safety seat, just pay attention when opening them next to cars parked parallel to you. Rear passengers have very good headroom, knees and feet. Two car seats or two adults could easily sit here and also three compact or unspoiled children are possible. The quality of the materials is less impressive than in the front and most of the time there are air conditioning ports for the rear row, a standard USB socket and a USB C socket

. There are also small compartments on the sides, a 12V socket, hanging hooks and anchor rings. The volume is not one of the largest in its group with 479 liters, but the key itself is comfortable, the loading opening is a bit high and if you are supposed to move large things there, leave the hard shelf at home that limits the loading height.

479 liters, reasonable in volume, not one of the largest in his group (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Passengers

The engine in the Qashqai bow is the one that also accompanied the outgoing generation but with a few small changes.

There are four cylinders here and the volume is 1.33 liters turbocharged.

The power is 156 hp (160 hp in the past) and the torque is 27.5 kg (27.4 kg in the past).

Another change is the return to a continuous box, the one that was replaced at the end of the previous generation with a double clutch.

As far as daily and administrative driving is concerned and up to a speed of 110-120 km / h the Qashqai gives a nimble feeling, even vigorous considering his team. The acceleration figure of 9.2 seconds per 100 km / h seems even pessimistic in terms of the feelings behind the wheel.

Indeed, above this speed and even more so when it is required to be treated in a mountainous way the feeling is of general slackness, as if to prevent the "run out" of air.

It does not impede traffic, but for detours that with other car I would perform safely here I preferred to give up.

Started as a high hatchback and swelled over the years (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

This is probably due to the second difference between the generations - the continuous box that has returned to use here.

Now it's important to understand, there are very few things that are more annoying than continuous gearboxes, karaoke and people singing karaoke - but here I am putting the star on the rule that stands out.

It does a great job of giving the natural feel of a transfer relationship.

In fact it does it so well that it even simulates the downshifts towards deceleration.

Only in one thing it does not keep the promise of continuous boxes and that is in achieving improved fuel consumption.

The Qashqai consumed 12.2 km per liter in the test conditions, a reasonable result, but not dizzying in nature.

One of the most important in the manufacturer's models outside the American market (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The other section where it earns credits is the ride comfort.

In the current generation both noise isolation and attenuation are drastically improved.

The places where he fails to maintain his excellent level of comfort are on fractures or potholes in the road, where it is not the absorption work of a shock absorber, but merely the penalty for choosing excessive and unnecessary 19-inch rims.

The previous generation had fairly good road behavior, but the current generation is showing another step up.

With an accurate response to steering wheel and without the tendency of such tools to tilt to the side or surprise with unexpected reactions to changes of direction.

Bottom line even if it is not at the level of engagement of the Mazda CX5, it has a surprising ability on a winding road and a lot of sense of security even when pushed in a way and at speeds that are very unsuitable for a vehicle of its kind.

19-inch rims, you can give them up and just win (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Summary

So yes, a racist of low expectations like me, I came to the Nissan Qashqai when I expect more of the same - a crossover that addresses the broadest common denominator which is the total compromise of a modern car. But with each stop on the way during the test and until the moment he returned to the importer's parking lot - the impression from him got better.

Qashqai prices more or less overlap with those of its competitors, like him, they have all gone up in price in recent years (not that it stops anyone so the public probably thinks it is justified).

With him, they start at NIS 160,000 for the very basic Acenta Top finish level, which is definitely not attractive and / or recommended.

The level of finish tested - Tekna, which is the highest and costs NIS 180,000, pours extraordinary amounts of equipment here.

But even after deducting the electric leather-fabric seats, the top display and the mobile wireless charger, which are definitely components that you can do without, you get the middle finish level, the Acenta Tech, which costs NIS 170,000, which contains the most important equipment from the senior version and is the most recommended of the three.

As a bonus, you will get rid of the bad damage of 19-inch rims in favor of 18-inch rims that will provide superior ride comfort, a little less pressure than going down a moderate trail and saving hundreds of shekels on every tire change.

In moderation and responsibility, it will also work with calm paths (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

It is currently the most important non-electric model for Nissan in European markets and one of its most important in general.

The leap it makes in relation to the outgoing generation is enormous, and it shows an improvement in each of the important sections that the previous generation had difficulty with.

For its competitors like Peugeot 3008, Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Karok and others who may have skipped it in the previous generation as a relevant competitor due to its age and dimensions we would suggest to take it seriously in the current round, this time it is a worthy alternative and above.
