The IEC warns this morning (Thursday) that attempts to defraud customers through a false message (SMS) calling on customers to "settle their debt" by a link leading to payment, or in an e-mail offering a monthly discount rate of 100% by clicking on a link to an impersonating site The
company stated that for several months now, alerts have been received from customers who report fraud attempts that include receiving a demand, via e-mail, to update details, while threatening to suspend an account if they are not answered immediately, along with SMS messages requesting payment settlement.

"The links lead to the same site in appearance as the official site," the IEC said.
"We reiterate and clarify that text messages on behalf of the IEC contain the customer's contract number, and the only current link is the IEC's official website www.iec.co.il. We have reported the attempted fraud to all relevant parties."
It is also important to remember that the IEC does not ask its customers to confirm account information, and that discounts on the electricity bill are given to eligible people on behalf of Social Security and not via a link to the e-mail.
