Actor Willie Gerson (Stanford from "Sex and the City") has died at the age of 57
The actor, best known for his role as Carrie Bradshaw's gay best friend in "Sex and the City," has died after a battle with cancer.
Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda, praised him: "I'm so sad. Everyone loved him and enjoyed working with him."

Actor Willie Gerson, best known for his role as the gay good friend of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) in "Sex and the City," has died at the age of 57 after battling cancer. Gerson starred in all six seasons of the hit series and even starred in two sequels. Gerson is survived by a son named Nathan.
His son Nathan praised him on Instagram: "I love you so much, Dad. Rest in peace. I'm so happy you could share your adventures with me." Actor Ben Stiller wrote on Twitter that he sends love to Willie's son, Nathan. "Your dad was strong and valued among his fellow actors. I'm grateful to have known him. He was also very funny."
Actress Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda in "Sex and the City" alongside Gerson, praised him: "I'm so sad about Gerson's death. We all loved him and enjoyed working with him. He was really funny on screen as he is in life.He was a source of light and friendship, just a complete professional - always. "

Gerson was born in 1964 to American Jewish parents.
Throughout the 1990s he starred in the popular police drama "NYPD Blue" and appeared in guest roles on many TV series, including "Friends," "Bags in the Dark" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
He has also starred in a number of feature films, including "Going Crazy About Mary" and "Being John Malkovich."
