Trailer "Into the Night" Season 2 (Netflix)

One of the ills of modern television is the prolonged drought, often too long, in action.

Even elite series ("Breaking Bad", for example, which provided a lot of tremendous TV moments) are endowed with long dialogues, endless whips of nothingness and especially the elitist concept of "depth".

Yes, everyone wants, and sometimes even knows, to show that there is more to them.

It is not always necessary.

In this respect, "Into the Night", a series created by Jason George in a Belgian production based on the Polish MDA book "The Old Axolotl", provided something different in the landscape. Its structure, six episodes At 30-40 minutes each, she could not waste time in her first season. She was as fast as the pace of her protagonists' escape. Remember (or not. ) Hijacked a plane in Brussels. The reason: the need to escape the sunlight, which began to kill humanity. The frightened passengers - a diverse mix ranging from Ajaz (Mehmet Kortulush), a fugitive Turkish criminal, to Rick (Jan Bijawa), a poor old man who suffered from internet fraud - realized that Terenzio was right. Under his leadership they continued to surround the dark part of the bullet, until they reached a bunker with soldiers who welcomed them, not before Sylvie (Poland Etienne) handcuffed Tranzio and let him die in the sunlight in revenge for trying to assassinate Ajaz. This act will cost her and her friends dearly in the future.

The characters become completely flattened.

"Into the Night" Season 2 (Photo: Netflix)

There was reason to wait for the sequel to "Into the Night." The excellent pace, even if at the expense of sheer logic, did the job. It is impossible to say that this is a series that is watched with bated breath, but it is one that is watched with fun. The problem is that this fun has encountered quite a few bumps in the fresh season, which recently surfaced on Netflix.

Unlike many other series that suffer from a long break, it is precisely here that there is no problem for memory to creep in. The fact that it was short, along with the simple plot line, helps to start from where we left off without asking unnecessary questions. But there are some issues with the current season. First and foremost - the element of surprise is dead. If the opening of the first season threw us from 0 to 100, this time we were already expecting to start in high gear. She did arrive, but that was not it.

This may be due to the fact that "into the night" becomes static.

The goal last season was to escape.

The impossible struggle against nature, when the main weapon is an airplane, hid a lot of magic in it, human intrigue was just an ornament.

This time hell completely becomes the other.

The protagonists are buried in a bunker, as if they are in a new reality format that has not yet been tried and is doomed to failure.

The rivalries that arise between the survivors and the soldiers, between the soldiers and themselves, etc. are simply not interesting or exciting.

The characters, who were flat in the first season as well, become completely picky.

The vacuum he left felt.

Trancio (Stefano Casti), "Into the Night" (Photo: Netflix)

Yes, there are some good and even surprising moments (for example, the fate of two of the protagonists that is different from what we expected), but "Into the Night" does not manage to rise from the ground this time, literally. The plot itself becomes less and less clear, more stepping in place, and we care less about the fate of its protagonists. The vacuum left by Trancio is noticeable, and the new villains fail to fill the pit he left behind. The only character that at least in me has continued to evoke empathy is that of the scientist Horst Bodin, with Vincent Lundz in a refreshing and completely different role from that of the policeman Roman Lujia in "Lupine."

And here's the twist.

Is the conclusion that emerges from all of the above a waiver of "into the night"?

Absolutely not.

Because of its comfortable length and the action that nevertheless takes place in it, it is still a series that can be used to fill holes and silence the constant "nothing to see" grievance.

The difference between the two seasons lies in the essence of the viewing - if previously the series could be seen as a combination of "black mirror" and "twilight zone", the second season is already mostly accompanied by background viewing of other things.

"Into the Night" can in no way enter under the definition of a boring series, but also fails to provide added value beyond the flat enjoyment of some illogical action moments, a complete antithesis to the same depth used as a stop in quality series.

Was nice, but it seems like you will not count the months until the third season.
