Nissan accelerates the new generation of light commercial and multifunctional vehicles sector with Townstar, presented today in Rome as a world premiere.

And that it is a 'first' in all respects is also testified by the fact that it is the first European vehicle of the Japanese manufacturer to show off the new logo on the grille: more essential, almost stylized.

The new generation of Nissan light commercial vehicles also consists of Interstar, which replaces the NV400, and Primastar, which replaces the NV300.

The strength of Townstar is its versatility: it will be produced in the van and combi version, in two lengths and with a 1.3 petrol or 100% electric engine. The epochal choice is not to offer any diesel. To those who turn up their noses at the absence of diesel, the CEO of Nissan Italy, Marco Toro, also remembers the installation of the free wallbox for electric buyers and the 40% lower maintenance cost 'With this vehicle alone we satisfy a segment that we previously covered with two: NV250 and e-NV200 'says Toro. 'We are convinced that with its 285 km of electric range, rechargeable up to 80% in 40 minutes - says the CEO of Nissan - Townstar could be the vehicle suitable for companies that travel a large part of daily routes in cities. and surroundings. The time required for a full tank of energy is 43% less than the previous electric model - he underlines - and can coincide with a stop for unloading goods or for a meal '.

The objective of the Japanese group for cars, declared for some time, is to reach 75% of electrified vehicles by 2023 and 100% by 2030. In this wake, it has also moved for the light commercial sector: the Townstar it will be produced with a 1.3 petrol engine with 130 HP and 240 Nm of torque, compliant with the Euro 6d-Full emission standard, or with a 100% electric engine with a 44 kWh battery and 245 Nm of torque.

Both built on the Alliance's CMF-CD platform in Maubeuge, France, also shared with Kangoo.

Interstar and Primastar are made respectively in Batilly and Saundouville, also in France.

Acceleration, therefore, on the alliance with the House of the lozenge and with Mitsubishi, with the aim of building 50% of vehicles on common platforms.

A decisive change of pace also from the point of view of technology, with 23 new systems available for safety, driving aids, parking aids, connectivity and stability systems even on uneven road surfaces.

There remains the Nissan warranty of 5 years or 160 thousand km. The professionalism of the network is also part of the 'revolution': all dealers will also sell commercial vehicles, but there will be some 'Business centers' specifically dedicated to the commercial sector.

From an aesthetic point of view, the new 'Nissan signature' is particularly evident on the front, in the headlights and on the grille. Larger size than NV250 and e-NV200. The interiors leave the typical essentiality of commercial vehicles to become automotive-like, even on vans, with ergonomic seats and comforts usually dedicated to sedans. Two screens: one 10 '' on the control side, one in the center 7 or 8 '' central (depending on whether the engine is thermal or electric). The largest in its class is the rear door. The load compartment of the short wheelbase version is 3.9 cubic meters, with swiveling bulkhead, which reaches 4.9 in the long wheelbase version.

The ambition is to sell three thousand Townstars by 2023, one thousand this year alone.

Prices have not yet been disclosed but, assures Toro, they will be in line with their competitors' vehicles.
