Mia Dagan and Irit Kaplan at the Cameri Theater's press conference on October 24, 2021, present an excerpt from the musical "Hava and I" which deals with Hava Yaari and Aviva Granot (Sagi Ben Nun)

The Cameri Theater today presented the repertoire for the years 2021-2022. The most surprising and intriguing production of the upcoming season is the comedic musical called "Hava and I", based on the story of Hava Yaari and Aviva Granot, who murdered the tourist Mela Malavsky in the 1980s. The musical was written by Yami Whistler from the entertainment band, directed by Noa Raban and will be played by Mia Dagan and Irit Kaplan, who will play the two killers (watch the preview of the musical, which was presented today at the press conference).

"It's a story that is told many times, but it is always told from the middle, from the point of view of the police investigating murder," Whistler tells Walla! Culture, "Noa and I thought it would be interesting to tell this story from the beginning. There is also a discussion about female empowerment, which is complex, there is no black and white here. Every story has love, cruel murder and a rolling pin. There is this thing in entertainment as well - a work that raises questions "Morality and not necessarily gives you the answers. It's a story about the rise and fall of friendships, about lots of good intentions and how our dreams sometimes get tangled up in each other, leading to dire consequences. It's Thelma and Louise meets 'Fiddler on the Roof'."

The character of Ehud Yaari will also appear?

"Definitely, Ehud Yaari is also a character. There will be a crazy cast, orchestra and dancers. We are still in negotiations about who will play Ehud."

And if you mentioned the pastimes - after the stage reunion you did recently in Haifa, will it have a sequel? Open your appetite?

"I do not know. I can not answer that either. It was very exciting that young people came to see these things. Our whole conduct is very chaotic and surprising ourselves as well. So I really can not tell you if it will continue. But one day. "You know, humanity has not invented a weapon that it has not used."

The first play to appear in the new repertoire is "Some Days," based on Meir Shalev's book. The play, directed by Hanan Snir, will feature Rami Baruch, Ola Schur-Selector and Micha Selector in the lead roles. "I am full of curiosity, I have never been back. When I was asked to give advice I gave it," Meir Shalev said at today's press conference. "When they did the 'Dove and Boy' books at the Gesher Theater, Yevgeny Arieh said that theater directors prefer to work with dead writers because they are less involved in the play. But he added that 'Meir is more comfortable than a dead writer.'"

The next production to be released at the Cameri is a new adaptation of "Peter Pan", the Cameri's first children's show in many years, for the first time since "Otz Li Gutz Li" premiered in 1965. Peter Pan will be played by Alon Sandler and Wendy will be played by Mia Landsman, on the new adaptation Signed by Shirili Desha and Roi Segev, and the director is Gilad Kimhi. The production is in collaboration with the Orna Porat Theater.

The Cameri's new repertoire will also include artists who are identified with the world of television: Dana Modan is writing a play for the first time in her career, "Bull" by name, which deals with a love story between two men and a woman living together; And Gitit Fischer ("This and That," "The Massacre") and Shir Reuven ("Conflicting Girls") wrote the musical "Caps," about an affair between two high school students.

It will be released soon in the Cameri: a new adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, signed by Itai Tiran, who is currently in Austria. Kfir Azueli will direct, Dror Keren will play Vania and alongside him Yuval Segal, Rami Baruch, Miriam Zohar, Kinneret Limoni and Anastasia Payne.

"Oedipus", which recently received an excellent new adaptation of a created theater, will also receive another adaptation at the Cameri Theater, which will star Amos Tamam, Keren Moore and Miriam Zohar. In the current adaptation the Greek tragedy has become a rhythmic thriller by Robert Ike directed by Irad Rubinstein.

Other classics that will appear in the theater are "Hefetz" by Hanoch Levin starring Odia Koren and Dvir Bendek, and "The Death of an Agent" by Arthur Miller, directed by Yair Sherman and with Rami Baruch as Willy Lumen.

In addition, the "New Generation Cameri" group, which was formed about a year ago and has already put on a play centered on the male genitalia, is currently working on the next play - "Shalom Lech Eretz" written and directed by Moriah Zarchia, which deals with four young people who leave the country.

In the field of global drama: the play "White Night" directed by Tamar Keinan, with Ruth Asarsai and Vichy Golan, will be staged in an adaptation in which racism against blacks in America will become racism in the police against Ethiopians; "Birthday Candles" directed by Roni Brodecki and starring Ola Schur-Selector, about the life journey of a woman from the age of 7 to 107; "Angels in America" directed by Gilad Kimchi and starring Nadav Knights and Abigail Harari.

In the past, the Cameri has been criticized for treating women, including the production of the musical "It's Me" based on Eyal Golan songs, a minority of directors and playwrights like in other theaters, and a harsh monologue by director and creator Aya Kaplan who allegedly abused two actors in the theater.

Now Cameri CEO Ran Guetta and Artistic Director Gilad Kimhi have announced: “This year we have given a lot of thought to the issue of gender equality.

The number of directors, playwrights and creators in the Cameri has increased significantly compared to previous years - and rightly so.

Gender diversity will ensure a rich and diverse repertoire mix, with an appeal to as wide an audience as possible. "Kimchi said that 40 percent of the plays in the new repertoire will be directed by women.

Guetta added that There for himself is an approach to a young audience.
