Politicians and experts are calling for electromobility to be expanded - this includes a dense network of charging stations.
It's about public charging stations, but also about private charging stations at home or in the garage.
For the time being, however, consumers will probably have to pay more for such devices.
In any case, the state funding for such stations is exhausted.
No more applications should be made, says the state development bank KfW.
However, ongoing proceedings are not affected by the stop.
The funding pot totaled 800 million euros, the program was topped up twice - for the last time in July by a further 300 million euros.
The money came from the energy and climate fund.
Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) had recently announced that the funding program had made a major contribution to electromobility in Germany.
With around 800 million euros, more than 800,000 households were supported with a subsidy of 900 euros for the purchase and installation of the wall charging stations.
The next federal government must continue this trend.
The support program for private charging points is an important addition to the support programs for the public charging infrastructure, explained the President of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Hildegard Müller.
»The enormous demand shows how important it is to expand charging options in the private sector.
Appropriate measures for charging in the workplace and in the commercial sector must now be put in place quickly. "
In addition, the expansion of the charging infrastructure, including the fast charging infrastructure, needs further support in the public sector, more on-site coordination and more speed.
"If people have the confidence to be able to charge everywhere: at home, at work, in shops and on public roads, the acceptance of electromobility will continue to increase."
It is now up to the new federal government to continue with possible further funding.
The SPD, Greens and FDP are currently negotiating a coalition.
More electric cars are seen as a key to achieving climate goals in the transport sector.
Greenhouse gas emissions from traffic have hardly fallen in recent years.
