It is an aggression and blows of batons which animated, all week, the debates around the wild rodeos.
A young man was sentenced this Friday to eight months in prison in immediate appearance in Lisieux (Calvados) for assaulting a mayor during one of these rodeos in Faulq, a small Norman town, announces the parquet.
The 20-year-old man, arrested on Wednesday, was placed under a committal warrant, said Lisieux prosecutor Delphine Mienniel.
He faced a five-year prison sentence.
With the revocation of two three-month reprieve, the sentence will be a total of 14 months in prison, added Julien Decré, the chief of staff of the prefect of Calvados who was a civil party with the mayor.
Saturday, Bruno Lethuillier, the mayor of Faulq, a town of about 340 inhabitants, had received "at least two blows with a baton, one in the face and one in the hand," the prosecutor said on Monday.
The perpetrator had fled.
The assault occurred while the elected was trying to put an end to a "motorized rodeo bringing together about 70 vehicles (cars and mopeds) organized illegally", according to the prosecution.
Rodeo organizers are also sued
The first magistrate of this village had been prescribed four days of temporary work interruption, according to the same source.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested on Wednesday.
"No threat, no physical attack against an elected official can be admitted, because it would be an attack on the democratic and republican pact of which he is the representative", underlined Friday the prefect, according to a declaration transmitted by his director cabinet.

The organizers of the rodeo in question, a major and a minor, were also "quickly identified", according to the prosecution.
The adult individual was sentenced on prior admission of guilt to two months suspended prison sentence.
The minor will appear before the children's judge, according to the same source.
