Arrest in a foreign country: The case in Turkey reminds surfers of the plot of "Midnight Express"

Natalie and the Oknin rebels just photographed Tom the Turkish Presidential Palace - one of the most common acts among tourists. As a result, they went into detention, which was extended this evening for another 20 days by the court in Istanbul, despite the assessment that they would be deported back to Israel. For many on social media, the Turkish conduct was reminiscent of Alan Parker's famous 1978 film, The Midnight Express. The drama, written by Oliver Stone and starring Brad Davis, Randy Quaid ("Days of Thunder") and John Hart ("The Elephant Man," "Stories of Peoples"), was based on the memoirs of a real man, Billy Hayes.
In his youth, Hayes was arrested at the Istanbul airport on suspicion of trying to smuggle hashish, after being caught with a package of marijuana.
He was sent to prison for a period of four years, and after serving them the prosecution appeals the "leniency of his sentence" and manages to persuade the court to send him for another thirty years behind bars.
The film describes in detail Hayes' physical and mental anguish, and presents a distorted legal system that seeks to turn the young man into a scapegoat to illustrate that she is firmly fighting the drug scourge.
At the time, this description led to much criticism in Turkey, allegations of damage to the country's good name and even a decline in its tourism revenues.
Nevertheless, as mentioned, the decision of the court tonight in Turkey reminded surfers on Twitter and Facebook of the capricious and cruel behavior of the cinema court.
