Satisfaction was granted by the High Council for the Climate (HCC), an independent body created at the end of 2018, on the French drop in greenhouse gas emissions, with a 1.9% decline in 2019 and 9% in 2020. But the pandemic contributed to these good results. However, an 8% rebound was noted for the first half of the year by the technical center of reference for air pollution and climate change (Citepa). Efforts must therefore be stepped up to comply with the national low carbon strategy (SNBC) from 2021 and the objective of carbon neutrality in 2050. The European cap of 55% reduction in 2030 replaces that of 40% set by France .
“The efforts that remain to be accomplished will be the most difficult to initiate,”
notes Corinne Le Quéré, president of the HCC.
