The latest corona catastrophe in this country will primarily take place in the intensive care units of clinics, but this time no one will probably applaud on the balcony.
The intensive care staff feels abandoned, and rightly so.
We undoubtedly owe this escalation to bumbling government action, as can be read in the current SPIEGEL cover story.
The booster vaccinations are not administered quickly enough, which is why older people who have been vaccinated are now back in intensive care beds.
But those who refuse solidarity with the rest of society have an even larger share: the unvaccinated.
The incidence rises where the vaccination rate is low, and it grows exponentially, especially among the unvaccinated, for example in Bavaria.
There are two types, some of which overlap: Unvaccinated people with bad feelings and those with bad ideas.

The former can possibly still be reached with arguments. Perhaps somewhere deep down you have the feeling that it would be smarter, more social and more solidary to get vaccinated. But there are these "gut feelings".
Food now gives these gut feelings their own class of eager and competent helpers, such as the soccer player Joshua Kimmich.
All of a sudden, these people have advanced to become experts in vaccine technology and prefer to "wait for a dead vaccine".
Among them is the bestselling author Richard David Precht, who is well-known from television and who recently said in a remarkable podcast with Markus Lanz about the numerous researchers that the long-term effects of mRNA vaccines are excluded for many reasons: “They define the term long-term effect different.

The prophets of bad feelings
Later the "suspicion" followed that the government wanted to "only improve its statistics" with vaccinations for young people.
This is exactly how conspiracy theorists talk.
Precht even had a concrete, completely out of thin air, horror vision for long-term effects in vaccinated children on offer: You don't know whether such a child might not "get autoimmune diseases later when it's in their mid-twenties," he painted the devil on the wall, to postpone: "It doesn't have to be like that, I don't paint the devil on the wall." In between Precht emphasized again and again that he was not an opponent of vaccinations.

Precht and Kimmich are among the prophets of a clear conscience and "bad feeling".
Both claim, not just without but against all evidence, that mRNA vaccines are too new to be able to make reliable statements about their effects, especially in adolescents.
Precht, on the other hand, wants to make measles vaccination mandatory.
But why should it be safer to inject someone with killed pathogens or components of them than to use a precision tool created in the laboratory that serves exactly one purpose - simply because you now understand how to make cells produce a desired protein ?
Tremendous competency attributions
Since the birth of modern medicine, we humans have been taking drugs without knowing exactly how they work.
It is different with mRNA vaccines: They are masterpieces of biotechnological engineering, which were produced for a very specific purpose and which also fulfill it excellently.
You know what they're doing, very well.
Much of what those who refuse to take a vaccination take for granted are completely different.
Aspirin, for example, has been swallowed by humans for 120 years.
However, John Robert Vane did not discover how it worked until 1971. That the substances that are now called neuroleptics can alleviate certain symptoms of psychoses was discovered by chance in the 1950s.

In the case of mRNA and vector vaccines, on the other hand, the approach was not trial and error, but systematic. The new vaccines are also meticulously tested by the same institutions as the old ones.
But now people come with their gut feelings and want to know better.
Usually no footballers, actors or philosophers stand around in a doctor's office and interfere.
It is now because the pandemic affects us all and is being negotiated on talk shows instead of just in consulting rooms.
The underlying problem is much bigger
The new corona escalation is very unevenly distributed across the country, and that is an indication of an even bigger problem.
It is currently worst in Saxony, Thuringia, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Brandenburg.
Three of these federal states are among those in which the AfD received the highest percentage of votes in the federal elections.
In Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg it landed below the national average, but "Die Basis" is more successful there than anywhere else.
And in Bavaria there are also the Free Voters in the government, led by Hubert Aiwanger, who has just been refined and who has long been “vaccine-skeptical”.

In other words: two thirds of the unvaccinated voters gave their votes to parties that reject liberal German democracy.
We are dealing with people who have lost all confidence in this state and its institutions.
Certainly some are missing from the survey, for example non-voters and people without German citizenship.
But the message is still shockingly clear.
The fourth wave is political.
Now people die for the resistance against "the system".
Many will feel regrets too late with an intubation tube in their throat.
Soon 100,000 dead
Refusal to vaccinate is the new protest voting, only that this case is a matter of life and death.
Soon 100,000 people in Germany will have died of or with Covid-19, despite all vaccinations and lockdowns, despite masks and the AHA rule.
The people who first claimed that the virus was no worse than the flu are now doing everything they can to ensure that this virus can settle in with us for a while and kill more people.
All of this means that large parts of the remaining unvaccinated people cannot be reached with good persuasion or even rational arguments.
Germany will have major problems with this clientele even after the pandemic.
For them, not being vaccinated is an expression of their personal and political identity, as misguided as it is.
Now therefore only the maximum possible coercion helps, within the framework of what the Basic Law allows.
A 2G + rule, i.e. access to as many public events as possible, only with vaccination, proof of recovery and a current negative test are the minimum.
This includes compulsory vaccination for certain professions.
Those who deny solidarity to the rest of society can no longer hope for solidarity for themselves.
