Caregivers on the verge of breaking up?
The antiphon is known but the figures are often lacking.
The association Médecin, organization, travail, santé (Mots), born ten years ago following a wave of suicides observed among doctors, has so far revealed an active line of some 300 caregivers.
Alarming figure: 13% of the association's first-time callers confide in having suicidal thoughts, which is much more than the 5% recorded in the general population by Public Health France.
“No doubt because of the history of the association, 85% of calls come from doctors, most of them general practitioners. However, since 2018, Mots has opened its network to other health professionals, ”
explains Dr Jean Thévenot, obstetrician gynecologist and president of this association which shines in eight regions of France thanks to volunteer relays.
