The UN climate conference in 2021 is over.
Since the beginning of November, representatives from almost 200 countries have been negotiating how increasing global warming can be contained.
A final declaration is now available - but is this declaration also suitable as a cornerstone for a climate decade, as Angela Merkel and others proclaimed in Glasgow?
We pursue this question in this podcast episode;
This time Susanne Götze from our science department is also there.
She accompanied the summit in Glasgow on site.
In the run-up to the negotiations, the outcome of the World Climate Conference was already clear for many climate protection activists.
The COP26 (26th

a green PR festival for western industrial nations.
In fact, these allegations are partly correct, after all, the major breakthrough in climate protection did not materialize this year either;
some countries were there, but slowed down the negotiations.
And an important decision to phase out coal was even weakened at the last moment.
Nevertheless, the activists' criticism falls short.
Susanne Götze says in the podcast: »The UN conferences are actually the only hope for a global fight against the climate crisis - despite all the differences.
Island states or African countries only have a chance there of receiving adequate help and compensation. "
The COP26 can even record a success that forms the basis for effective climate protection in the next few years.
»All 200 countries have agreed on a common climate system.
There are now rules for everyone to implement the Paris Treaty, «said Susanne Götze.
Common rules for climate protection that all member states must adhere to - real progress.
In this third episode of the COP26 podcast, we talk about the events on site, analyze the results and draw a conclusion: Did the resolutions of this climate conference help to combat global warming or were ultimately only empty promises dominated?
We ask ourselves that in this episode of »Climate Report«, our podcast on the climate crisis.
Curious?
Then you will now hear our »Climate Report«.
