Trailer for the movie "Red Message" (Netflix)
In October, Netflix announced that it was changing the way it reveals its viewing figures to investors, creators and even viewers. Objective: More transparency. Therefore, instead of reporting "popular content", such as those sampled from only two minutes (this was the essence of the list of "10 popular content" that appeared until yesterday in the service), starting yesterday the company presents the data by cumulative hours.
Aside from the updated list that appears in front of every subscriber when he logs into Netflix, and is now called "Top 10" instead of "Top 10", every Tuesday a new site will have ratings of the past week - from last Monday to the following Sunday.
There is a list of English-speaking films with the highest cumulative number of hours, a list of foreign films, a list of English series and a list of foreign series, divided by seasons (so there is no fear that series with many seasons will take over the table).
In each of the titles is written the total number of hours viewed.
You can also browse to previous weeks and arrive by the end of June 2021, and see what were the most viewed content in each of them.

In addition, each country has its own weekly lists, all series and all movies, with no cumulative hours and no division into languages. In Israel, as in the rest of the world, the most watched film is "Red Message." Although released only last Friday, it managed to garner 148 million and 720,000 hours of viewing worldwide, which according to Netflix makes it the largest cinematic opening in the history of the service. For a movie that is about 110 minutes long (shaving the credits), this means that on average the movie was viewed 1.35 million times.
Beyond the weekly ranking, Netflix displays the content viewed on the site at all times.
Here, too, English / foreign language series and English / foreign language films, based on the number of hours watched in the first four weeks of their release.
According to the lists, "The Squid Game" is unrivaled in the most-watched series (including the most-watched content) on the service, with a billion and 600 million hours of viewing worldwide!
Far behind stands the first season of "Bridgerton," and next to it the fourth season of "Paper House."
As for the movies - "The Bird Box", "Tyler Rake: Rescue" and "The Irish" are the most watched in this index.

Of course, even this method is not ideal for measuring the content viewed.
It gives a huge advantage to longer content.
For example, six-episode series, each lasting 30 minutes, have to deal head-to-head with 22-episode dramas, each close to 45 minutes.
At the same time, compared to the two-minute index, which did not really allow conclusions to be drawn (for example, many of the content that appeared on the popular content lists were quickly eliminated, such as "hit and run"), in this case at least a clearer picture can be obtained.
