The calendar of vaccine recalls, a major challenge for the Defense Council

The vaccine booster, for whom and when?

The Defense Council which takes place on Wednesday could provide answers to this question made urgent by the acceleration of the Covid-19 epidemic.

This meeting will allow

"to address the question of the extension of the third dose of the vaccine, considering the recommendations which we obtained from the various scientific and health authorities"

, indicated Tuesday the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran.

Friday, the High Authority of Health (HAS), recommended to inject the booster dose (most often a third dose) from 40 years, six months after the complete vaccination.

One of the other challenges for the Defense Council will be to know from when the recall will be necessary to extend the medical pass according to the age groups.

For those over 65, this mechanism should in principle start on December 15.

The Scientific Council hopes that, as a second step, the recall will also become necessary to extend the health pass for 50-64 year olds.

In addition, the Defense Council could decide to make the mask compulsory again in certain places, including theaters.

of Covid-19 in Europe which could cause 700,000 additional deaths on the continent, where the new health restrictions arouse anger. If the grim predictions of the WHO were to come true, that would bring the total number of deaths from the pandemic on the Old Continent to 2.2 million by the spring.

Encouraging trials for innovative vaccine

The first trials (phase 1) in Germany of a vaccine project against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, called CoVac-1, have shown that it induces immunity linked to T cells, according to a study published on Tuesday which shows the subject of an article in the journal

Nature

.

T lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell responsible for the second part of the immune response, cellular immunity, which complements that by antibodies by directly attacking infected cells and not just the virus circulating in the body.

For the first clinical evaluation of this vaccine, 36 participants aged 18 to 80 received a single dose of the vaccine candidate.

The

"specific T cell responses to SARS-COV2 were observed in all participants 28 days after vaccination, effects that persisted for at least three months."

These responses exceeded those induced by natural infection with the coronavirus responsible for Covid-19.

In addition, they have not been

“altered”

by any of the variants of current concern (Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta).

These results are however very preliminary and only larger trials will be able to confirm the real interest of this vaccine to protect against Covid-19.
