The number of

corona deaths

in Germany has exceeded the threshold of 100,000.

As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported early Thursday morning, citing data from the health authorities, another

351 people

died within 24 hours of

a corona infection, the number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic rose to

The first corona fatality from Germany became known on March 8, 2020, the 60-year-old German tourist died shortly after entering Egypt.

Just one day later, the first two corona deaths in Germany were reported from North Rhine-Westphalia.

The nationwide

seven-day incidence has

currently risen

again and is now

(404.5 the previous day).

Within one day,

75,961 new infections

with the

corona virus

That is 10,590 more cases than on Thursday a week ago, when 65,371 new infections were reported.

The total number of registered cases of infection in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 5,573,756.

The seven-day incidence indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.

On November 8, the value in Germany had exceeded the threshold of 200 and thus the previous high since the beginning of the pandemic of 197.6.

Since then, new highs have been recorded every day.

According to the latest available information from the RKI, the hospitalization incidence nationwide on Wednesday was 5.74.

The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants were in hospital within seven days because of a corona infection.

In view of the steep rise in the number of corona infections, the discussion about the introduction of a general corona vaccination requirement had picked up speed in the past few days.

The new regulation could take effect as early as January 1st

The traffic light parties are planning to make vaccinations compulsory in old people's and nursing homes, and the planned coalition wants to examine an expansion of the compulsory vaccination.

According to SPIEGEL information, the new regulation could come into force on January 1, 2022.

People who work in clinics, nursing homes or outpatient care services would then have to provide evidence that they have been vaccinated or have recovered.

If not, they would have the opportunity to do so by March 31st.

Employers should use it to check the vaccination or convalescence status of their employees and to be able to present the evidence to the health department on request.

With the change in the law, older and previously ill people in particular could be better protected against infection with the corona virus.

Covid-19 outbreaks have occurred repeatedly in the past, especially in nursing homes.
