The reservoir of the Keban Dam in central Turkey, filmed by a drone.
The lake's water level is low - a consequence of a lack of precipitation, probably due to climate change.
However, the drone pictures also show: A gigantic sinkhole filled with water.
It is around 150 meters from the reservoir and itself has a diameter of 350 meters.
The rock formation is probably not new - but the falling water level in the reservoir has now exposed it.
The geologists responsible have not yet known much more.

“We wonder what the connection is here. Was the hole created by the collapse of a cave system? Or is the water penetrating the crater through cracks in the walls? We will research that. Perhaps the hole is part of a very large underground cave system in the area. "
This man is called Vahdet Gunduz.
He discovered the crater lake when he went fishing on the lake and then marched over the now dry rocks.

“This is exactly where we always laid our Angels without knowing that there was such a formation here. It was always a great spot for carp and pike here. "
Now people in the region, 70 kilometers from the eastern Anatolian city of Elazig, are hoping for an upswing in tourism: visitors could be interested in the formation - and above all, it could become a Mecca for amateur divers.
