Lava torrents pour down the slopes.
The volcano on La Palma has erupted again.
Accompanied by more than twenty tremors, several new chimneys opened on Sunday.
Magma masses pushed to the surface and broke through the walls of the volcanic cone to the north and northeast.
The first outbreak on the Canary Island has now been ten weeks.
At that time, volcanologists estimated the duration of the eruption to be around 50 days on average.
They have long been exceeded.
Local people are watching the new outbreaks with concern.
Thousands of people have already lost their homes, and ashes and lava destroyed around 2,700 buildings.
More than 1,100 hectares of land have been devastated, an area twice the size of Gibraltar.
Nevertheless, there was good news at the beginning of the week: The airport has resumed operations after helpers freed it from the ashes of the last few days.
The 78,000 remaining residents do not currently have to worry about an evacuation, reports Spanish media.
If you can, stay and watch the natural spectacle from a safe distance.
